   Malevolence

How prettily it came to rest here;
a cat elongating in a sun patch
droning sweet and soothing phrases
below bright, hypnotic eyes.

Emoting innocence and inspiration,
it made a home of our emotions -
folding them like soggy blankets,
concealing contempt for our goodwill.

How quickly it fled when first we saw
Malevolence without its mask!
The cat, no longer napping shrieked,
glimpsing the shame of its own mind.
