   She Hangs Holly

She hangs holly from her balcony
though Halloween is two days hence.
Christmas lights cast shadows
on pumpkins, mocking tradition.

Her display offends the neighbors,
as if eccentricity causes harm,
but I suspect a deeper meaning
in her advancement of the seasons.

Perhaps this décor brings her hope;
red and green reminders of humanity.
In these dark times of hate and death,
I salute her nod to compassion.
